Held invoices and sales returns

Park a sale and come back to it, and return goods against the original invoice.

A customer who forgot their wallet, or a queue that needs serving while one order is checked — holding a cart costs nothing and keeps the register moving. Returns are stricter by design: a return always points at the sale it reverses, checks that the quantity was actually sold, and puts the goods back into stock and the money back through the ledger, so the books stay consistent.

Held invoices and sales returns
  1. To hold a sale, press Hold on the register. The cart is saved with its customer and any discount. Press Held Invoices to see everything waiting; pick one to restore it exactly as it was.

  2. To return goods, open Sales → Sales Returns → New and find the original invoice by its number or the customer.

  3. Tick the lines coming back and set the quantity for each — the system will not let you return more than was sold, less anything already returned.

  4. Choose how the money goes back — cash from the till, or credited to the customer's account — and confirm. Stock returns to the warehouse and the ledger entries reverse.

Good practice

  • Held invoices are per register and do not reserve stock. Check the item is still available when you recall one hours later.
  • A cash refund shows in that cashier's handover as money out, so it never looks like a shortage.
