Stock transfers between branches

The one way goods move between warehouses without a sale or a purchase.

Stock is counted per warehouse, so when a branch runs low and another has plenty, the goods have to be moved on paper as well as in the van. A transfer is the only document that does this — it lowers one warehouse and raises another by the same quantity, keeps the cost with the goods, and leaves a record of who moved what and when.

Stock transfers between branches
  1. Open Purchasing → Stock Transfers → New. Choose the source warehouse and the destination — they can be in the same branch or different ones.

  2. Add each item and quantity. You cannot transfer more than the source currently holds.

  3. Confirm. Both warehouses update immediately, and the movement appears in both branches' stock movement reports.

  4. Print the transfer from its page to send with the goods — the receiving branch checks against it.

Good practice

  • Transfer before the goods leave, not after they arrive. A branch selling stock that is not yet on its books shows negative stock and a wrong cost.
