Sales and profitability reports

Where the margin actually is — by item, category, customer and branch — from the same postings as the books.

Because cost is a real weighted average and every sale posts its cost of goods sold, profitability here is not an estimate. The Profitability report breaks margin down by whatever you ask — item, category, customer, branch — over any period. Sales by Group and the dashboard give the daily view; Profit & Loss gives the accountant's. All of them read the same ledger, so they cannot disagree.

Sales and profitability reports
  1. Open Insights → Profitability. Pick the period and the branch, then group by item, category, customer or branch. Sort by margin to find what earns — and what does not.

  2. Insights → Sales by Group shows revenue by category for the period, on screen and as a printable page.

  3. Insights → Reports collects the sales reports with customer and branch breakdowns; each exports to CSV if your role allows export.

  4. The dashboard's period selector applies to all its cards at once — today, this week, this month, or any two dates — and each card is a shortcut into the matching report.

Good practice

  • Run Profitability by customer quarterly. The customers on your best price list are not always the ones earning you the most.
  • A negative margin on an item nearly always means a purchase was entered after the sales — check the movement history first.
